Woooooooo! The whistle went. All the teams entered the turf ready to win. There were three hockey teams from Rangikura, two girls' and one boys' team. All going out for one thing and that was to have fun.

One of the girls' teams competed in Premier 3. Captain's Renee and Brooke led their team with enthusiastic encouragement. This meant their team held their heads high, had fun and learnt lots of new skills.

Another team which started the season P3 was our only boys' team. They annihilated the teams in P3 and to played a grading game at the end of round one. It was a success and they spent the rest of the season in P2. It was good to know that our Rangikura boys' team had the talent and the ability to win.

Last but not least, the Premier 1 girls' team. They were ready to make Rangikura history. Since they fought their hardest and played with intensity and pride, they did what they planned and that was to win the P1 grade. We are really proud of them; they represented not only our school but Porirua as well.

Rangikura schools hockey season for 2009 went really well this year. We'd like to thank Amanda and Adam Parsons for their great coaching skills with the boys, also Eddie Uluilelata for helping with all the teams, Ondine Souter for her outstanding coaching with both girls' teams, also for getting all the gear ready for the teams and of course for leading the P1 girls to victory. Lastly of course our families, we appreciated every bit of their help. It was great to know that we had people who wanted and encouraged us to play hockey.

Saturday Netball

Pohutukawa Netball

The Australian Diamonds won the Netball World Cup 2008, The Pulse won their first game in three years and the Rangikura Jewels won the Year 5 and 6 division of the Kapi Mana netball league held at Mungavin Courts in Porirua. There were two other Rangikura teams, the Rangikura Ruby and Rangikura Diamonds. All our teams were committed to their netball even when the weather was sunny, our pouring down with rain.

We were lucky enough to have three enthusiastic coaches, Rose Isopo, Fran Temarama, and Katrina Day. They gave us good advice, shown by the Jewels winning and by how everyone's skills improved throughout the season.

Every Thursday we would train hard even if it was raining. We always encouraged other team mates to try their best at everything they did -even if it's skills or running. Nothing could stop us even if we made a mistake!

Every Saturday it was game time! We were all very nervous. Whenever we would hear the officials ring the bell for the last quarter we would sprint to the court where we were going to play our game. Our practise paid off when we won our games. Even if we were losing, we fought back hard and never gave up.

We love netball and we are very talented at it!

Kahikatea Netball

"Rangi on 3, 1! 2! 3! RANGI!”   The girls took the court ready to represent their school with pride.  There were two amazing teams of Kahikatea students that played netball in 2009.

It all started with a trial.  Every single girl expressed their netball talents and after hours of hard work the girls were split into two teams, A and B.

Every Thursday the Emerald B team would train with their coach, Nikki Merval.  The training started of with a quick, easy warm-up.  These warm-ups involved running laps around the school, practicing basic ball skills and stretching our muscles in case of an injury.  To end training we had a friendly game against the Novice A team from Pohutukawa.  Over all training was fun and taught us many ways to improve our netball and the team finished third at the end of the season.  The team of Tusi, Lehi, Chance, Teleise, Ariana, Tiara, Shaleena, Kayla and Harmony would like to thank Mrs Mervall for her great coaching, Zoe for umpiring and our parents for all their support.

Then on Fridays the Jade A team would train, with their coach, Frances Barnsley.  Most of their trainings involved fitness tests, ball skills and many different techniques to the game.  They would end their training with a small team talk to help them with what they needed to improve on.  This team had many close and exciting games.  After 12 weeks of hard work this team managed to come third thanks to the help from their wonderful coach.  The girls that fought hard to come third were Briar, Skyla, Lesina, Davina, Ezra, Ngarangi, Emily, Zabrina and Evelyn.  Thanks to Kapi Mana for providing umpires for us, to our coach Francis and all our many supporters.

Both teams finished 3rd and showed how much the girls love netball and will continue to play next year and beyond.
