About Us

Our school was established in 1975 as a contributing school to Waitangirua Intermediate. In 1992 we became a full primary school (Year 1-Year 8). Our roll is currently approximately 330 students.

We have: 41% Pasifika, 38% Maori, 14% European, 4% Asian and 3% Others.

Our school provides a smoke-free environment for everyone. We have achieved a Sunsmart Award from the Cancer Society and a fourth consecutive Gold Heartbeat Award from the Heart Foundation.

We are very proud of our school, our students and our achievements in providing the best possible learning opportunities and outcomes for students.

Our school is highly regarded in the community. Parents are very supportive and appreciate our work with their children. Parents tell us they like the friendly atmosphere, our concern for doing the very best for our students including the way we support students with learning difficulties, our facilities and resources and the way in which any concerns or issues are followed up.

A number of students travel some distance and bypass other schools to come to us. We are considered the school of choice in Porirua East.

Our staff all work hard to ensure students are achieving to their potential. We employ specialist part time teachers in both the junior and senior schools to work with students needing extra assistance, both for those needing extra help and those needing extension.

Please see our School Framework on the Beliefs page.

Our staff are heavily involved in extra curricular sporting and cultural activities. Our students are renowned for excelling in these areas. We have a philosophy of providing as many opportunities as possible to encourage and develop the diverse talents of our students.

Over the years we have remodelled and renovated all of our school buildings - library, administration blocks and classrooms. In 1999, as a result of a tragic fire, we built a brand new four classroom block.  We opened a brand new hall/gymnasium in 2009 and are currently building two new classrooms to replace re-locatable rooms. The old rooms will be converted into a central resource room and an ICT room.

We encourage our staff to work closely together as a team. As a school we believe in taking continuous small steps towards a vision of a high quality school.

We are committed to working even more closely together in the future. We encourage all staff to learn and pursue professional development opportunities so that our students can benefit from the improvement that teacher professional development brings to classroom programmes.

We are also focused on school self review as we seek to examine, change and adapt what we do to benefit student achievement and outcomes. Improving the achievement of our students is the most important thing we do.
