Rangikura School

Rangikura School are the BP Technology Challenge champions for 2009 in Wellington. The annual competition was held at Victoria University in November, with our school gaining winning places in each year group. The BP technology challenge involves teams of four students solving problems using equipment like newspaper, string and cellotape…all in a very small time frame. (For those of you over who remember the TV show MacGyver… very similar challenges). This means team work, communication are important skills to bring to the challenge, as well as problem solving, creative thought and perseverance.
	This year our year 3/ 4 team had to make the ultimate lunch box out of newspaper. The year 5/ 6 and 7/8 team had to create packaging for a healthy food product to be sold at a gala. As well as these known challenges the teams all had an unknown challenge to solve. This year all teams had to make a decorative tall Christmas tree out of newspaper and cellotape.
Our results were: Year 3/4 2nd in unknown challenge 2nd overall in Wellington Year 5/ 6 1st in unknown challenge 1st overall in Wellington 3rd in known challenge Year 7/8 2nd in known challenge
	There were about 50 schools in each year level so these results are extremely impressive. What talented students we have!
