Pohutukawa Syndicate

Welcome to Pohutukawa Syndicate we have Year 4 to 6 students in our block.

This term (Term 3) there will be an Arts focus. We will be studying the

four components of the Arts in depth; Ms Small will be leading Dance, Ms Day will be leading Drama, Ms Cotter will be leading Music and Mrs Nui Visual Art.

Children will participate in a rotation of each of the 4 components throughout the term which will prepare us well for the whole school Art Expo in Term 4.

LIVING HERITAGE WEB PAGE LAUNCH

Recently five students from Mrs Nui’s class designed and launched a webpage on the Living Heritage website (a Ministry of Education endorsed site). Leilani, Vasaty, Shannen, Tyrahl and Leah decided on a topic for study, Pacific Roots in Porirua, and then researched and designed a web page to convey the information they discovered. Their web page was officially launched at the Porirua Library and also to two schools in Rarotonga. The project was overseen by UNESCO with our aim being to foster communication with children in the Pacific Islands so our children can reflect more on their identity and the immense value that comes with learning about their heritage. Please visit our webpage at www.livingheritage.org.nz

Matiu Somes Island Trip

At the end of Term 1 our whole syndicate made a day trip to Matiu Somes Island in Wellington Harbour. We all had an amazing day and learnt a lot about the native life and history of Matiu Somes Island. Look at the photos below of our amazing experience.
